The issue of suspending the parliamentary immunity of Nika Melia, the chairperson of the United National Movement, is currently being discussed at a joint sitting of the Committee on Procedural and Legal Affairs. The Prosecutor of the case, Amiran Guluashvili, has already introduced the investigation agency's motion to the deputies.

After the end of the committee session, the issue of mandate suspension for Nika Melia will be voted on at the plenary session of the Parliament today.

As it is known, the parliamentary opposition representatives will not support the suspension of Nika Melia's parliamentary immunity. The ruling team says that everyone is equal before the law, and in case of non-payment of bail by Nika Melia, the majority will satisfy the appeal of the Prosecutor's office.

A case was launched against Nika Melia on June 20, 2019, for leading and participating in group violence near the Parliament building.

According to the Tbilisi City Court decision of June 27, 2019, he was sentenced to the bail of GEL 30 000 as a measure of restraint.

The restraint measure due to non-fulfillment of the bail conditions was tightened, and the bail got increased by GEL 40 000.

Nika Melia was summoned to the Prosecutor's Office, but he did not show up.

On the same day, the Prosecutor's office gave Nika Melia an additional one week to comply with the bail conditions.

According to the agency, in case of non-payment, the Prosecutor's office will apply to the court for his detention.

The chairperson of the United National Movement says that he will not pay the bail and notes that if someone pays the bail for him, it will be a provocation organized by the Georgian Dream.
