Zaza Gakheladze visited by Red Cross - information the family received

"The Red Cross visited Zaza a few days ago, we were told that he is healthy and in a better mood," Irma Butkhuzi, Zaza Gakheladze's wife, told Report.ge.

According to her, the Georgian side is in a more active phase of negotiations on the case of Zaza Gakheladze and holds daily meetings with international agencies.

"As the lawyer said, Zaza does not want to appeal his sentence and hopes for the support of our government. His refusal to appeal can be considered as a protest. We do not have daily contact with our government representatives, but when there is any progress or any meeting is held, we are informed about it. We expect that Zaza will be released," Irma Butkhuzi told Report.ge.

The so-called court of the occupied Tskhinvali sentenced Zaza Gakheladze, a citizen of Georgia, living in the village of Kvemo Chala, Kaspi Municipality, to 12 years and six months in prison.

Before the arrest, the occupants wounded Zaza Gakheladze with a firearm in the territory controlled by Georgia.
