Police used spraying water cannons, firing rubber bullets and teargas against protesters in Chile, killing 18 people. Tens of thousands of protesters took to the streets of Santiago, Chile's capital. Citizens protested the reforms promised by President Sebastian Pinera and his failure to comply them. A wave of protests swept through towns and villages in South American country of 18 million people.
The rallies first began against a four-cent subway fare rise, but later it turned into demands for improved social conditions, education and health. About 20,000 soldiers are patrolling the streets, nearly 200 people have been injured and about 5,000 arrested.
