"The areas liberated from the occupation were monitored, during which we inspected the condition of the monuments there, and the situation with the cultural institutions," the Acting Head of the State Service for Protection, Development, and Restoration of Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan, Azad Jafarli stated.
According to him, 3030 historical and cultural monuments have been monitored so far.
"Most of them were destroyed. We discovered 87 new monuments, which have historical significance, and architectural features. 461 cultural institutions have been inspected - museums, houses of culture, libraries. Of these, 212 libraries and 199 houses of culture were completely destroyed. These are not all registered monuments; the process is ongoing. To date, only 1,000 monuments have been registered. The destruction of most of them speaks to the vandalism policy of Armenia. They wanted to erase our cultural heritage from the territory completely; they wanted to destroy all the facts that these monuments belong to us," he said.
