Several Buddhist stone cliff carvings dating back to the Song Dynasty (960-1279) have been discovered in northern China, Hebei province. Xinhua News spreads information about the discovery.

The cliff carvings were discovered by archaeologists near the Cejing village in the city of Shahe, in the northern part of one of the local mountains. A total of 23 carvings of the Buddha were found, the largest of which is 1.5 meters high.

Archaeologists are convinced that the largest figure dates back to 1078. They came to this conclusion after studying the inscriptions on two stone tablets placed on top of a Buddha figure.
