Eighteen families from an apartment building in Thrissur, India, turned to local authorities for help. They can neither shower nor drink the water because the alcohol comes from the tap.
According to residents, first came the smell of alcohol, and the next day "a mixture of liquor and water came out of the taps."
It turned out that six years ago, a bar opened near the building. A bunch of excise officials disposed of 6000 liters of beer and other spirits into a pit next to the apartment. The hole was close to the apartment's open well, mixed with the soil, and flowed into the apartment's open well, spoiling over 20,000 liters of drinking water.
The local authorities already provided alternative means of water supply to the affected population and started cleaning the area.
