For the first time in the world, American surgeons transplanted a male face and both hands at the same time. CNN reports that the operation was successful.

According to the publication, in 2018, a man named Joe Dimeo was returning home from a night shift in New Jersey. He fell asleep, as a result, the car crashed into a fence, overturned, and burned. The man received burns on 80 percent of his body.

Dimeo spent four months in the hospital after the accident. He underwent 20 surgeries. Doctors decided to transplant his face and both hands from a deceased donor.

The operation lasted for 23 hours. Half a year after the transplant, Dimeo was able to blink, raise eyebrows and perform other facial manipulations. He can dress independently, play with the dog and even play golf.
