Bolivia holds presidential and parliamentary elections on October 18.

In addition to the head of state, citizens of the country will elect today 130 deputies and 36 senators of the Plurinational Legislative Assembly.

The decision to hold a vote was made after the cancellation of the presidential elections held on October 20 last year. Then the Supreme Electoral Court (WIS) of Bolivia declared the then-incumbent President Evo Morales the winner. His main rival Carlos Mesa refused to acknowledge these results, and protests began in the country. After three weeks of demonstrations, Morales resigned and left Bolivia.

Responsibilities of the acting head of state before the new elections was taken over by the second vice-speaker of the upper house of parliament, Jeanine Agnes.

The WIS's new composition canceled the presidential and parliamentary elections' results and convened new ones, which were initially scheduled for May 3, but then postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic to October 18.

Six candidates are running for the elections
