Police used tear gas to disperse participants in an illegal carnival in central Marseille, the radio station RCF reports.
The radio station France bleu reported that seven people were arrested.
In total, about 6.5 thousand people took part in the carnival.
According to media reports, the participants did not wear masks and did not follow the rules to maintain social distance.
Local MPs and Twitter users condemned the event. They say carnival participants do not respect doctors who are on the front lines during the fight against coronavirus.
