The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has authorized the so-called booster dose of the Pfizer vaccine for people over 65, and for people who are at high risk, the agency AP reports.
People in this category can be vaccinated with the third dose at least six months after the second dose.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the so-called booster dose of the Pfizer vaccine on September 23.
Earlier, a group of advisers to the US Food and Drug Administration recommended a booster dose for citizens over the age of 65 and at high risk for serious illness but did not support the wider use of the third dose to everyone. According to the advisory committee, there is not enough evidence to make such a decision, and more safety data is needed.
