The US has recorded 24,618 deaths related to coronavirus, with 978 dying in a single day, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
Three states in particular have been badly affected: New York, New Jersey and Michigan account for three out of every five deaths in the country. A total of 10,834 have so far died in NY.
The US also has the most confirmed cases worldwide and is worst affected country, with its 591,285 confirmed cases. A total of 37,449 have so far recovered here.
