Angela Merkel says that the COVID-19 vaccine developed by the European Union member countries will be accessible for everyone worldwide. This statement is published on the web site of the German government.
Frankfurter Allgemeinen Zeitung has published earlier that the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, and leaders of the EU member countries have allocated 7.5 billion euros for the vaccine development.
Donor countries will meet at a conference to discuss the issues of fight against coronavirus on Monday, May 4. Merkel has declared that Germany is taking the responsibility to ensure everybody gets the vaccine, medication, and diagnostic aids.
According to the Chancellor, eight billion is not yet enough for vaccine development. “Germany will invest a significant financial share” in the business, emphasized Merkel. The Chancellor welcomes private funds, drug producers, as well as CEPI and GAVI to join the government in investing in the business.
“Germany plans close cooperation with WHO, which plays a significant role in this issue” – said Merkel.
