The press service of the Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan has issued a statement saying that the Armenian military continues to conduct military operations against the civilian population of Azerbaijan and violates international human rights norms and principles, including the 1949 Geneva Convention on the protection of the civilian population during hostilities.

The statement says that the Armenian armed forces are deliberately using demilitarized and civilian settlements as targets. During a military operation, the village of Arani in the Yevlakh district, located 50 kilometers from the fire line, was bombed.

"The Smerch 9M525 cluster missile of the Armenian Armed Forces, consisting of 300-mm reactive projectiles, was defused by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, leaving part of the projectile in the village of Arani, near the South Caucasus Oil Pipeline, part of it fell 120 meters from the western oil pipeline to the Black Sea coast. The rest of the shell fell 100 meters from the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline going through the village."

The statement said that the Armenian side committed an act of terrorism and posed a serious threat of large-scale property damage to Azerbaijan.

"Based on these facts, the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Azerbaijan initiated a criminal case on October 6 under the following articles: 100.1, 100.2 (planning, preparing, launching or managing an aggressive war), 116.0.1, 116.0.6, 116.0.7 (violation of the norms of international humanitarian law during armed conflicts) 117.2 (issuing criminal orders during an armed conflict), 214.2.1, 214.2.3 (terrorism), 218.3 (creating a criminal organization), 279.3 (creating unlawful armed formations) and 186.3 (intentional damage to a particularly large amount of property). Investigation of the case was entrusted to the Investigation Department of the General Prosecutor's Office."

Currently, the Azerbaijani prosecutor's office is carrying out possible operative-investigative measures in combat conditions and is appealing to international organizations to impose sanctions on Armenia.
