At an auction in Kanazawa, Japan, Ishikawa Prefecture, a rare "Roman ruby" grapes cluster, sold for 1.4 million yen ($ 12.7 thousand). The Kyodo agency reports about the record price.
The publication notes that for the third year in a row, the price of "Roman ruby" has set a record at an auction. This year the owner of a Japanese supermarket chain in Taiwan bought the grapes.
"Roman Ruby" was bred by Japanese breeders in 2008. Its scarlet berries are the size of a ping-pong ball. "Roman ruby" is especially popular among lovers of sweet delicacies in Japan.
