The Case Breakers, a group of 40 investigators, claims that they have identified the serial killer "Zodiac," Fox News writes.
The investigation revealed that behind the serial murders committed under the name of "Zodiac" is Gary F. Poste, who died in 2018.
The publication notes that this is only a guess so far; the FBI and police are still investigating.
Investigators say his identity has been established using some evidence and the testimony of living witnesses so far. According to them, identifying the serial killer may help solve his code.
Another piece of evidence was a painted clock found at the scene of Bates' murder.
The first victim of the "Zodiac" was David Arthur Faraday. The killer murdered a 17-year-old teenager on December 20, 1968, near Lake Herman Road.
The Zodiac killed five people in Northern California in 1968 and 1969 while sending mocking letters and cryptograms to police and newspapers. The mysterious killer was named "Zodiac" because his cryptograms contained astrological symbols and hints.
