According to the UN, more than 20 countries worldwide are facing starvation in the next few months.

Many families are already starving in Yemen, and South Sudan, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Food Programme (WFP) stated in a report published.

An estimated 34 million people are on the verge of starvation, mainly caused by conflicts, climate shocks, and the coronavirus pandemic.

According to the report, northern Nigeria, Yemen, and South Sudan are at the top of the list of countries at risk of "catastrophe." However, most of the hotspots identified in the report are in Africa, but there are also countries from other regions, such as Afghanistan, Syria, Lebanon - from Asia, and Haiti from Latin America.

"It's our duty to act and act quickly, to save the lives of many people, to avoid that terrible future," said Qu Dongyu, FAO Director-General.

He said three things are needed to prevent a catastrophe. Stop controversy, help the vulnerable, and increase donations.
