Apart from the coronavirus, a new epidemic - mucormycosis, better known as "black fungus," has spread in India. Mucormycosis is an infectious disease caused by a variety of fungal families. The infection causes sores on the nose and other areas of the face that are necrotic and accompanied by pain and cold.

The disease has already been detected in about 100 people. There is a special department for them at the hospital. Most of the infected are from the city of Jaipur, The Indian Express reports.

An explosion of so-called "black fungus" was reported in early May. Most of the patients have been infected with the coronavirus and just recovered.

Part of the patients died as a result of the new epidemic. "Black fungus" infection is common in many countries, but in India, its concentration is high due to climatic conditions - high temperatures and humidity.
