In Egypt, elections are underway for the House of Representatives (lower house of parliament), as the parliament's term expires in January 2021.
The first round will last two days in 14 out of 27 provinces, and the results will be available no later than November 1.
On November 7-8, the remaining 13 provinces will host the second round of elections.
Current elections will be held in a new format following the amendments to the electoral law.
The fight for 284 seats in parliament will be held on a closed-list system; another 284 mandates will be determined due to voting on an individual plan.
The country's president will later appoint another 28 MPs.
The amendments to the law stipulate that the number of elected members of the House of Representatives should be 568.
At least 25% of the seats belong to women.
