Pfizer vaccine reduces hospitalization in children aged 12-18 by 93%

A study by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found that the Pfizer vaccine was 93% more effective in preventing hospitalization in 12-18-year-olds, The Guardian reports.

The US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) study was conducted between June and September, when Delta was the most dominant variant.

The study looked at data from 179 patients from 19 children’s hospitals.

97% of study participants were not vaccinated. Of these, about 16% needed assistive devices.

The authors of the study said that the data “reinforces the importance of vaccination to protect US youths against severe Covid-19.”

On October 7, Pfizer and BioNTech announced that they had applied to the US Food and Drug Administration for an emergency permit for children ages 5 to 11.
