A telephone conversation took place between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, and the Deputy Secretary of State of the USA Stephen Biegun.
According to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, Bairamov briefed his counterpart on the situation in Karabakh.
"Minister Jeyhun Bairamov noted that Armenia's military provocation is aimed at deliberately aggravating the situation and shows that the country wants to expand hostilities," the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
According to Azerbaijani media, during a telephone conversation, The Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Biegun expressed serious concern over the increased tension in the region and enlarged the geography of hostilities. He underlined the importance of dialogue.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov stressed that Armenia should obey norms and principles of international law, including its obligations under the international humanitarian law, and implement the demands of the United Nations Security Council's resolutions for immediate, complete, and unconditional withdrawal from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan.
