Sea levels off the Atlantic coast of the United States have risen to record levels over the past century, a study published in the March 23 issue of the journal Nature Communications reveals.

Studies by a group of scientists at Rutgers University show that in most of the areas studied in the 20th century, the rate of sea-level rise was twice as high as from the time of Christ to 1800 AD. It is noteworthy that the highest rate was observed in the southern part of New Jersey, exactly where Rutgers University is located.

University scientists aimed to make more realistic predictions of future sea-level changes. The authors emphasize that their methodology makes it possible to analyze sea level dynamics in other regions as well.
