Studies of Venus - NASA announces two new missions

The US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is announcing two new missions to Venus. Their goal is to determine how Venus became a "hellish world" if it has many Earth-like characteristics, NASA reports.

The missions are called DAVINCI + and VERITAS.

During DAVINCI +, Venus' atmosphere's composition will be measured to understand how it formed and evolved and why it is an "uncontrolled greenhouse" compared to Earth's atmosphere. In addition, the mission will determine if there was an ocean on Venus.

The purpose of VERITAS will be to study the geological history of the planet.

Approximately $ 500 million has been allocated to each mission under the NASA Discovery program and will begin in 2028-2030.
