Washington court sentenced a 32-year-old Emma Coronel Aispuro, wife of prominent Mexican drug lord El Chapo to three years in prison and decided to confiscate $ 1.5 million from drug sales.
Aispuro signed a plea agreement with the investigation and admitted that she was involved in the activities of the "Sinaloa" drug cartel created by her husband. Aispuro said she helped El Chapo escape from a Mexican prison through a tunnel in 2015.
The drug lord's wife, who was arrested in the U.S. in February 2021, was facing up to 10 years in prison, although the court ruled that the woman had not previously been prosecuted and had not participated in the violence.
