The Dutch government plans to purchase a 17th-century Dutch artist, Rembrandt, self-portrait, "Standard Bearer." For this purpose, the country has allocated 150 million euros (170 million US dollars). The information is spread by the BBC.
The government is seeking parliamentary approval to purchase the painting, saying it is extremely important for Dutch culture and history. This amount will be added another 10 million euros from the museum fund and 15 million euros from the Rembrandt Association.
The Netherlands decided to buy the painting from a private collection of the Rothschild family after France refused to buy the self-portrait and allowed it to be sold on the open market.
The canvas by the Dutch artist has been owned by the French branch of the Rothschild family since 1844.
A self-portrait was painted when the artist was 30 years old.
