"Three sketches created for the Paris Grand Opera in 1928, which belong to Alexandre Benois, were donated by Archil Gelovani, the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Museum," Giorgi Kalandia, the director of the Palace of Arts, wrote on the social network.

The works for the Palace of Arts were purchased at a Sotheby's auction in London and brought to Tbilisi this morning.

"The chairperson of the Board of Trustees said during a meeting at the museum that his goal is for the Art Palace to become one of the largest owners of collections of "Silver Century' artists in the world. The Board of Trustees of the Museum and the Pirosmani Foundation will gradually start purchasing theatrical masterpieces. Negotiations in Berlin have already been successfully concluded. In the coming days, the Palace of Art will receive six more works by Alexandre Benois, including sketches of Giselle and The Wedding of Cupid and Psyche, staged at the Palais Garnier in Paris in 1909-1910," Giorgi Kalandia said.
