According to the Press Office of the Justice Ministry, two employees in the Gldani prison have been detained over the assault on Giorgi Rurua.

The General Inspection of the Ministry of Justice detained senior inspector at the No 8 Penitentiary Institution Security Department, identified only as Sh.M., and senior inspector at the Legal Regime Department, known only as L.G., on workplace negligence charges.

As per the court ruling of 16 December 2020, Sh. M. and L. G. have been detained under Part 1 of Article 342 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, with this Article envisaging imposition of fines upon offenders or house arrest from six months to two years or up to three years of a jail sentence. The investigation of the case is underway.

Giorgi Rurua, a shareholder of the Mtavari Arkhi (Main Channel), was assaulted in prison on 2 November and abused verbally and physically.
