The Rustavi Court has declared former Mayor of Marneuli Municipality Temur Abazov, and three other defendants not guilty. The bail posted by the defendants has been returned to them.
Video footage showing a resident of Marneuli, Elchin Alakhverdiev, apologizing for verbally abusing Georgian Dream Chairperson Bidzina Ivanishvili and Marneuli Mayor Temur Abazov in circumstances which violate personal dignity was spread on social media.
The Prosecutor's Office detained Abazov for subjecting Elchin Alakhverdiev to inhumane treatment on 13 June 2018. Criminal proceedings were instituted for physically abusing Alakhverdiev against three other individuals: Azer Suleymanov, a member of the United National Movement, Ramin Alakhverdiev, a member of the Marneuli Municipality Assembly and Mr. Guliev, the relative of Marneuli Mayor.
