Lawyer Valeri Gelbakhiani said that his client Gogi Tsulaia declared a hunger strike seven days ago. As the lawyer stated, he had also refused to take medication and is at risk of falling into a coma.
''He is malnourished and cannot even speak properly. He refused to consume food a week ago,'' the lawyer said, adding that his client has chronic diabetes and has recently undergone heart surgery, which is why 'he may slip into a coma any time.'
In the lawyer's words, Mr. Tsulaia demands that he be allowed to meet Public Defender Nino Lomjaria, and he is immensely concerned that he has not managed to attract anyone's attention so far.
Gogi Tsulaia was detained on Mar 17, after a young woman accused him of subjecting her to sexual abuse.
He decided to declare protest by refusing to eat in his pre-detention cell.
Gogi Tsulaia was sentenced to jail time on Mar 19 as a measure of restraint.
