Verdict in Shakarashvili's case to be announced today

The verdict in the case of Giorgi Shakarashvili's murder will be announced today. Bidzina Sturua, the Mtskheta District Court's chairperson and the judge of the case, will announce the verdict. The judge has so far been discussing the issue. He used a total of seven days to make the decision.

The case has been pending for almost nine months. Five people have been charged with the premeditated murder of Giorgi Shakarashvili. Two of them are minors, which is why the sessions are closed.

In previous hearings, the detainees' families stated that they would appeal to other instances and the Strasbourg court in case of a guilty verdict.

It is known that Giorgi Shakarashvili's mother and his friends will also attend the announcement of the verdict today. Shakarashvili's mother has been questioned once. Except, in this case, she has not been to court hearings.

According to the prosecutor's office, the detainees first physically injured the 19-year-old football player, after which they threw him into the Aragvi River. The detainees' lawyers categorically deny this and state that the crime evidence has not been presented to the prosecution. None of the detainees pleaded guilty to the charges.

The verdict will be announced in Mtskheta District Court at 15:00.
