Despite Georgia’s progress since it declared its independence, the recent years have revealed a continued negative trends in democratic and free-market economic indicators that have not gone unnoticed in the United States” – writes the member of the House of Representatives of the USA Congress, Marqwayne Mallin in his letter to Georgian Prime Minister, Giorgi Gakharia.

The Congressman writes on the continuing decline from democratic values and the associated decay of its economic prosperity.

Mallin writes that he joins his colleagues in Congress, Adam Kinzinger, and Gerry Connolly in their recent letter that highlighted the concern over the decision to forego promised democratic reforms.

“The result is that foreign direct investments in Georgia is on decline because of US and European business interests have been subjected to harassment and expropriation attack.

For the first time in Georgia’s modern history, your country has been cast in negative and cautionary light with respect to appropriations from the US government.

While it is my hope that Georgia will continue to be a strategic partner of the United States for many years to come, I also hope that your government will halt the aggressive actions against the US companies and act quickly on the increasing warning signs that represent the threat to the democracy and economic prosperity that the Georgian people deserve so much.” – writes Mallin

Besides the above, the Congressman mentioned that because of the negative trend, the voices of concern and calls for consideration of sanctions and other penalties are increasing. He joined this call for reform by introducing Georgia Fair Business Practices Sanctions Act.
