President Salome Zurabishvili has released a statement on the early termination of the powers of a non-judge member of the High Council of Justice Ana Dolidze. In her statement, the President underlines that the Constitution authorizes her to appoint members of the High Council, not terminate their powers. However, the current Organic Law of Georgia on Common Courts envisages the issue on the termination of powers of members of the High Council.
"The President thinks that a person holding such a high and responsible position must be aware of the criteria envisaged by the law, and understand where the dividing line between politics and her job-related duties lies. The President expects Ana Dolidze to make a timely and sensible decision," the President concludes in her statement.
Ana Dolidze is thought to pursue political career, which is why members of the High Council of Justice of Georgia claim that she has to resign from her current post. Non-judge member Nazi Janezashvili shares the same position and alleges that Ana Dolidze is breaching the law.
However, Dolidze herself alleges that she has nothing to do with politics at this point, and she will make the corresponding decision if she decides to pursue a political career.
