According to Archil Talakvadze, the Chairperson of the Parliament, the Georgian Dream is offering the opposition a compromise option over the electoral system. The ruling party put out an initiative, which includes a reduction of up to 50 majoritarian mandates.

“We propose to maintain the current mixed electoral system but increase the proportional share in this system by two-thirds. If we agree, we will proportionally elect to 100 deputies instead of 77, and the majoritarian mandates will be reduced to 50,” Talakvadze stated.

The Chairperson of the Parliament thanked the diplomatic corps for their involvement. Talakvadze admitted that the ruling party failed the transition to the proportional electoral system, which created a threat of team dissolution but managed to come up with a compromise option.
