"Considering that Azerbaijan is our partner and ally, in making the border-related decision, both countries' interests will be pursued," Secretary-General of the Georgian Dream party Kakha Kaladze declared.
"It is unfortunate that we have to focus on the serious issue of an illegal attempt of alienation of Georgian lands by Georgian citizens. It has already been publicized that within the investigation by the Prosecutor's Office, two persons were detained.
Following the investigation, it has been proved that at the Border Demarcation Commission, the map on which the parties agreed in 1996 has been replaced by the illegitimate map data with this resulting in 3,500 ha of Georgian land being found within the borders of our ally Azerbaijan, with this being against the interests of our country.
We stress that the investigation of this issue is in progress inside the country against particular authorities, with this referring to Georgia only, for it constitutes a domestic national issue.
For the purposes of avoiding provocations, I reiterate especially for our opponents to hear this is a domestic problem and politicization of this issue is absolutely inadmissible, especially, the discussion of this issue in the context which has a potential of deteriorating Georgia-Azerbaijan relations," Kaladze said, adding that any similar attempts will be deemed antinational, for Azerbaijan is an ally country and the final decision will be acceptable for both Azerbaijan and Georgia.
