U.S. Helsinki Commission Chairman Benjamin Cardin said that the Georgian Dream government's attempt to tarnish journalists' reputation is disgraceful.
In his words, recent attacks on journalists in Tbilisi are shocking and unacceptable, and those responsible must be held accountable.
Cardin stressed with the Voice of America that far-right attackers on peaceful demonstrators of Tbilisi pride, who were encouraged by the Georgian Dream leaders, and those responsible for cameraman Lekso Lashkarava's death must be prosecuted. ''It is disgraceful that GD leaders are trying to refocus attention by denouncing journalists who were doing their job,'' Cardin declared.
