Georgian vice-premier and FM Davit Zalkaliani has had a telephone conversation with United States Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman.
The two high officials focused on Russia's attempts to hamper the efforts by Georgia and Ukraine to move closer to NATO and join it eventually. They stressed that Russia's attempts to do so breach international norms and cannot be tolerated. Also, they emphasized that Russia's refusal to fulfill its obligations under the 2008 ceasefire agreement has so far remained a key threat to Europe's security.
Zalkaliani and Sherman also made reference to the latest developments around Ukraine.
The Georgian FM thanked the US Deputy Secretary of State for supporting Georgia's Euro-Atlantic aspirations and the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders.
