"On December 7 of this year, Irakli Bebua was illegally detained and sentenced to 9 years in prison in occupied Abkhazia," the State Security Service reported.

According to the agency, the co-chairs of the Geneva International Discussions were immediately informed about this fact.

"All existing mechanisms have been put in place, and we are actively working with international partners. Irakli Bebua, as well as the issue of unconditional release of Georgian citizens illegally detained in the occupied territories, will be raised in the next round of Geneva international discussions scheduled for December 10-11," the statement said.

Georgian citizen Irakli Bebua was detained in occupied Abkhazia for burning the so-called Abkhazian flag.
