The government of Georgia intends to tighten the rules of operation of online casinos. Irakli Gharibashvili stated before the government session. According to the Prime Minister, GEL 1.5 billion flows out of the country every year through online casinos.
In the first stage, Irakli Gharibashvili initiates an age restriction and a ban on advertising, and in the second stage, according to the Prime Minister, online casinos should be banned altogether.
"Our citizens, our young people play online casinos every day and lose money. In the first stage, the Minister of Finance will present a legislative initiative to increase taxes for owners of online casinos. Most of them today are foreign companies, and unfortunately, our citizens' money is going abroad. Then advertising should be banned, and the threshold should be raised to 25 years, and in the second stage, online casinos should be banned altogether. I hope that there will be public support in this direction," Gharibashvili said.
According to him, the government will actively work with the parliament on this issue.
