According to James Appathurai, the NATO Secretary General's Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia, the organization does not recognize so-called elections in Abkhazia. Appathurai wrote about the position of NATO on his Facebook page.
"NATO does not recognize the so-called elections which took place yesterday in the Georgian region of Abkhazia. The Alliance continues to support Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty within its internationally recognized borders," James Appathurai wrote.
Aslan Bzhania leads the so-called election in Abkhazia. Russian media reports that, according to preliminary results Bzhania, received 56.5 percent of the votes, while Adgur Ardzinba, the so-called Minister of Economy, received 35.42 percent.
