The Mayor of Tbilisi has responded to the latest political and derogatory statements on Georgian sportsmen, including Georgian rugby players. In his words, attacking famous athletes and successful people has been a trend in Georgia lately.
"These statements have been issued by degraded people. Our successful sportsmen are assets of our country and the source of our national pride, for they take Georgia's name outside its borders. We all together repeatedly celebrate their victory and, accordingly, spontaneous and hasty statements against them aiming at tarnishing their reputation by dragging their name through the mud, with these terrible people not knowing what they are doing, may not anyhow damage either Talakadze or our rugby players. Anybody who insults and verbally abuses them is a mush lesser human than they are. I wish our sportsmen all the success and want them to ignore repulsive statements by similar degraded people," Kaladze declared.
