"These people, when they call themselves oppositionists, why are they not embarrassed about it? What do they have to do with the opposition?" jailed leader of the United National Movement party Nika Melia told the Mtavari TV channel.
Melia made this comment about opposition politicians Aleko Elisashvili, Iago Khvichia, and Vakhtang Megrelishvili.
In his words, a desperate campaign is currently underway, in which these politicians are involved with the ruling Georgian Dream party.
The goal of this campaign is to correct public attitudes towards Melia's case.
"They say that since I refused to accept the indulgence and did not allow the EU to credit the amount necessary for the pledge, then a backup mechanism was activated - amnesty.
Otherwise, they say, if Melia had accepted this amount from the European Union, the amnesty would not have been on the agenda. It is what the Georgian Dream is promoting,'' Melia said.
"Georgian Dream, Elisashvili, and Iago Khvichia often hold briefings, but they could not beat me," Nika Melia claimed.
