The plenary sitting of the Parliament will not discuss Irakli Shotadze's candidacy for the position of Prosecutor General. According to the decision of the Bureau, the issue will be put to a direct vote. Anri Okhanashvili, the Chairman of the Legal Issues Committee, initiated the vote.

Okhanashvili said that Shotadze's hearing at the Legal Affairs Committee was transparent and full-fledged yesterday.

"We have ensured that the voting process is in full compliance with the regulations. I asked the Bureau to raise this issue only at a plenary session and it is no longer advisable to make it a political matter. If anyone had the desire and interest, they could attend the committee, "Anri Okhanashvili said.

Parliament's Legal Committee supported Irakli Shotadze as Prosecutor General yesterday.

The Prosecutor's Office selected Irakli Shotadze's candidacy for the Prosecutor General's Office on February 7, after which he submitted to the Parliament. Shotadze needs the support of 76 MPs.

Under the current legislation, the Parliament of Georgia elects the Prosecutor General for a six-year term.
