President Zurabishvili: Do we actually fail to grasp significance of yesterday's meeting?

Georgian president Salome Zurabishvili has thanked European Council President Charles Michel for his active involvement in the recent meeting between the government and the representatives of opposition parties.

However, the president stresses that some political forces have failed to understand the process to the core.

Zurabishvili defined yesterday's meeting as productive, and in addition to Charles Michel, she thanked the representatives of the opposition for their active and constructive engagement. However, in her words, they failed to comprehend all aspects of the process in detail.

"By sending their major political figure and involving him in the country's crisis and its de-escalation, the European Union has shown us that Europe has not left the region; on the contrary, Georgia's democratic aspirations, stability, and development are immensely important for it.

Against this background, today's responses are astounding, including their questions 'where the president was' or picketing and new arrests.

Do we actually fail to grasp the significance of yesterday's meeting or the support with which they have provided us? All this requires that we undertake our responsibility and be more consistent, adopt a different approach to our country and show true patriotism," Salome Zurabishvili declared.

Within his visit to Georgia, on Mar 1, European Council President Charles Michel met with the Georgian president, Prime Minister, the Chairman of the parliament, and the opposition.

Later, at his initiative, a meeting between the authorities and the opposition was convened.
