Proportional representation is no longer be a dream; it has been a dream since the 1990s, however, according to Georgian PM Giorgi Gakharia. In his words, the passage of the electoral reform package is the country's victory as it guarantees Georgia's further democratization and eventual integration into the Euro-Atlantic family.
"Proportional representation is the opportunity of development as well as the replacement of one political culture and political elite with another, with this enabling new blood, young people, to enter the political scene. Each citizen will soon feel this beneficial change.
This path will be difficult to follow, but following it is critical for our country's further democratization and integration into the Euro-Atlantic family. All political forces should put aside narrow personal interests in resolving similar fundamental issues and serve their country's interests instead," Gakharia declared.
