''The U.S. is keeping a close eye on Mikheil Saakashvili's arrest and his health condition. We are concerned about his health," United States Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan said.
Degnan calls upon the government of Georgia to provide ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili with medical assistance in a fully-equipped clinic.
''We strongly recommend that the government ensure that Saakashvili's medical and mental state be protected. They must treat him fairly so that his dignity is not violated in compliance with the legislation of Georgia and international standards.
In any country, the government is obliged to safeguard inmates from violence, ensure their safety, and provide them with medical assistance,'' Degnan stressed.
