The 2020 Golden Ball Award got canceled. The France Football reported the news. According to the well-known publication, there are no fair conditions for awarding the prize.
"We do not want to talk about the special circumstances caused by the coronavirus crisis during the award ceremony. The prize is primarily about fairness. In this case, it is about the statistics of the players. You can not evaluate the players' competition in the same way, because for many of them the season ended abruptly," reads the statement.
It is noteworthy that for the first time since the establishment of the award since 1956, the award will not take place this year. From 2010 to 2015, the Golden Ball was issued under the auspices of FIFA. The last owner is Lionel Messi.
